Old photographs of Ringley.

This page of pictures carries on from those shown on the "Old photographs of Clifton" web page where you will find other photo's of Ringley (that page was getting too full!). Many thanks to all those people who have contributed pictures, your help is very much appreciated and without your generous assistance, these web pages would not exist. If YOU have any old pictures or photographs that you might wish to share with others of the Clifton, Kearsley, Stoneclough or Ringley areas, then please get in touch with me here.

At present there are no captions to the pictures. I'll try to add some if and when I can find the time! Sorry ........ but I thought the page wthout captions was better than no page at all! Feel free to supply me with explanations of each picture!

The Bamboos

I've just been informed that the above photo is NOT in fact at Ringley.

"This was in fact Oaks Bridge which is over the R. Croal in Moses Gate Country Park at SD 7495 0657. The bridge used to carry a tramway from the nearby brickworks on the Farnworth side of the river to a private branch of the MBB canal on the Little Lever side. The bridge collapsed during severe flooding in ( I think) 1947, and a further arch collapsed in flooding in 1987 and resulted in the bridge being demolished for safety reasons. The bridge was
built over a weir which is still there. The photo is taken fom the MBB canal overflow, of which part of the stonework can be seen in the
foreground. I think the photo is taken after 1979 as there appears to be a path downstream of the
bridge on the opposite side which was constructed about that time."

Thanks for the info Wes - the photo was given to me by a 3rd party so I didn't know any better. As it's still a "local" photo I'll leave it on the site ................ Anyone any more local pictures anyone?
