Fortunately - or unfortunately if you happen to be a member of my family - over the years I seem to have built up quite a collection of hobbies and interests. These include:-

• Amateur radio. Call sign is G3VOM. Licenced since 1966. I specialise in Amateur Radio Space Communications. Look at the Radio Society of Great Britain on the Web. Picture of my "shack" here.
• Flying microlights - from Barton Aerodrome near Manchester, UK. Go to the Barton Microlight Weather Page for the Weather. Due to ill health I recently took up paragliding but have now ceased all flying activities - except when friends offer me a flight.
• Astronomy. Take a peek at the "Astronomical picture of the day" web site. Some astro pictures taken on my telescope can be found here. Have completed a number of Astro Courses with John Moores University, Liverpool and also with Jodrell Bank at the University of Manchester.

• Spinning wool - in fact spinning anything ..... including recycled plastic bottles! All you need to know about spinning is here. If I really feel like it (not often!), the wool is then used - to make shawls, scarves and similar items which nobody ever wants - on small home made weaving looms. • Genealogy. Take a look at my full family tree and family details. This tree is now somewhat out of date - one day I just may get round to updating it.
• Hill walking - especially in the Lake District. Have completed all the "Wainrights" plus most of the major Pennine peaks.
• Short Wave Listening. Take a look at the pages of the World DX Club.
• Growing bamboos. I currently have over 20 different varieties of bamboo growing in the garden (pictures of the garden here). An informative site can be found on the American Bamboo Societies web page. I also grow ferns from spores.
• Producing picture postcards. Click here to see samples - you can even BUY some if you want!
• I also enjoy being on water! I sail a "Laser" single handed racing dinghy and I also use a canoe for paddling around in the Lake District and on local canals. I hate swimming! Latest ..... no sailing nowadays .... except for sailing radio controlled model boats on Blackleach reservoir every Sunday morning!
• I ride a motorcycle "trike" - (Yamaha 1100cc front end, Harley tanks with Ford Escort rear axle) or click HERE for a picture of me and the trike!

• I collect Roman, Byzantine and ancient Islamic coins!
